Expertise
Joanna specialises in travel and aviation commercial matters. She also deals with disaster management and has been involved in managing the aftermath of the 2005 Helios Airways crash outside of Athens, as well as other large scale tour operator crises. In the commercial law sector, Joanna advises on travel law (including Package Travel Regulations and ATOL), commercial aviation matters, employment law and general company/commercial matters.
Prior to joining Gates and Partners Joanna held the role of Head of Legal Services for a vertically integrated tour operating group and was responsible for oversight of the group’s overall legal function. Joanna was involved in a wide variety of matters including travel litigation claims, personal injury claims, including the widely cited Singh v Libra Holidays Limited, drafting supplier contracts, commercial agreements and brochure/web booking conditions. In addition her expertise extends to package tours, dynamic packaging, accommodation only sales, distribution channels and aviation charter/sub-charter agreements. She was also responsible for the management and implementation of the group’s UK crisis management policy.
Joanna was also involved in the start-up of two in-house airlines and her aviation expertise includes operating lease negotiations, rotable parts agreements, aviation regulatory matters, commercial agreements and crisis management from an airline perspective.
