Carole Blackshaw

Expertise

Carole has extensive experience over 30 years dealing with the regulation of the international civil aviation industry, advising airlines, airport and aircraft operators, service suppliers and the air transport industry generally. Her experience included being seconded to an American law firm (New York and Washington) in 1984 and working extensively in Hong Kong (for which admitted as a Solicitor in 1985) where in the 1980s she was involved with the establishment of a new international carrier. As well as national and international regulation, she has increasingly been involved in EU regulation in recent years

Education

  • Admitted as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 1980 and in Hong Kong in 1985
  • Lecturer – Granted “Recognised Teacher Status” by Cranfield University

Lecturing

Since June 1987, Carole has been a visiting lecturer and examiner at the Air Transport Department, College of Aeronautics, Cranfield University. She lectures on the M.S.c. courses in air transport management, short courses and, in particular, since establishing it in 1997, is joint course-director of a one week annual symposium on International Air Law and Regulation. During the 1990s, Carole was a visiting lecturer at the Asian Institute of Management in Manila. In addition, she has presented numerous aviation training courses to airlines, airports, aviation institutions and regulatory bodies around the world, many in Asia but including Africa and the Middle East.

Professional Affiliations

  • A past member of the British Association of Aviation Consultants (a Council member and Honorary Solicitor for ten years).
  • From 1993 to 2006, a member of the Ethics Committee of the Human Factors Group (College of Aeronautics, Cranfield University) which vetted aviation research projects.
  • Since 1998, a member of the Air Law Committee of the Royal Aeronautical Society and Vice-Chairman for 2011. In 2004 made a Fellow of the Society.
  • From 2004 to 2007 a Trustee of the RAF Museum, Hendon.

Publications

  • Contributed articles to various international aviation publications (e.g. “World Aerospace Profile”, “Developing World Transport”, “Avmark Aviation Economist” and “Pan-European Airports”).
  • Book, “Aviation Law and Regulation” published by Pitmans in April 1992.
  • Contributor to the Aviation section (Volume 2) of the 2003 Fourth Edition of Halsbury’s Laws of England.

Interests

Carole’s interests are music and fine art with a particular enthusiasm for Renaissance painting, Baroque music, Georgian country houses and Victorian history.
